The Wikimedia Foundation project I am working on is about improving the existing Programs & Events Dashboard documentation. The Programs and Events Dashboard is a tool that assists the management and tracking of activity made by various groups of editors contributing to a common project. The dashboard works across multiple wiki programs in a variety of languages.
The Programs and Events Dashboard is a resource accessible to anyone passionate about collaborative writing and research, including individuals such as students and editors, as well as organizations like schools. It generates reports on individual activities within various program types, such as basic programs, Edit-a-thons, and Article Scoped programs. By offering valuable data on activity levels and timeframes, the dashboard equips communities with insights to enhance future project preparation and understand the impact of collaborative activities on ongoing programs.
The foundation of this project is from the collated reports of user needs such as requests for additional documentation on specific topics, and video tutorials for navigating certain dashboard functions. Though the dashboard already features documentation and demo videos on particular subjects, enhancements are needed in some areas. The documentation also needs to be up to date with the recent user interface changes on the Programs and Events Dashboard. My task involves a comprehensive review of existing documentation and user feedback forums to identify common high-priority topics for improvement and develop more content around these topics. Improving the documentation on these topics aims to improve the overall user experience of the Programs and Events Dashboard, which is a crucial task that I am grateful to be a part of. Despite my initial questions and hiccups, the process is still interesting and my excitement grows as I work on the project.
Essentially, the Programs and Events Dashboard is a versatile and inclusive tool in the Wikimedia community. Its tailored support for various program types, coupled with insightful data on activities and impact assessment, enhances decision-making and cultivates an organized and continually improving collaborative environment.
